ARISE is a nonprofit independent living center that serves individuals with physical, mental, cognitive, sensory and multiple disabilities. Founded in 1979, the center serves more than 3,000 people each year. It offers peer counseling, independent living skill training, information and referral, and individual and system advocacy services. ARISE provides adoption, child abuse prevention, housing, employment, and crisis pregnancy and domestic violence counseling services. The center s additional services include assistance with transportation, social skill development, personal care, and medication and money management. It operates a library that maintains a collection of books and reference materials on topics, such as financial management, education, technology, housing, health, employment and recreation. ARISE maintains a location in Oswego, N.Y.
