Annette Fiorillo, DO, MS is a member of Summit Health’s Allergy and Immunology team. Dr. Fiorillo treats the full range of allergic and immunologic disorders in adults and children, including asthma, food and drug allergies, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, insect hypersensitivity, skin disorders, and immune disorders, many of which are diagnosed in early childhood. Dr. Fiorillo takes pride in treating her patients as she would want to be treated and engaging them in their care. She is a proponent of patient education, open communication, and mutual understanding of the best course of treatment. “Inviting patients to be involved in their care allows for better compliance and communication, which translates to better health,” she says. Moreover, she wants to ensure her patients leave her office knowing their concerns were addressed and feeling confident in her diagnosis and treatment plan. A longtime interest in science extended to medicine while Dr. Fiorillo was in high school, when someone close to her was diagnosed with a rare, life-threatening disease. The doctors involved in that person’s care made a lasting impression, leading Dr. Fiorillo to a master’s degree program focused on immunology research and then to medical school. Her research work continued with subjects including hereditary angioedema, mold allergy, atopic dermatitis, and hive disorders, and her findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at professional meetings. Dr. Fiorillo is passionate about helping children with food allergies and new treatment options, as well—all part of what she enjoys most: working to make a difference in patients’ quality of life. “Most allergic and immunologic diseases are chronic and can be debilitating. Improving chronic disease states allow patients to live more freely,” she says. “Preventive and acute care in allergy and immunology is life-changing.” In her free time Dr. Fiorillo enjoys biking, hiking, skiing, and spending quality time with her family.
