Dr. Joseph Anain, Sr., is one of the most respected vascular surgeons in Western New York and a leading pioneer in the field. His career at Sisters of Charity Hospital began more than four decades ago following vascular and angiology fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Since that time, he has performed thousands of procedures, becoming one of the leading vascular and endovascular surgery specialists. Dr. Anain started the first diagnostic angiography suite at Sisters Hospital in 1967, breaking new ground in performing percutaneous selective catheterization directly into the blood vessels. In 1968, he made local medical history, placing the first implantable peripheral stent into a patient in Western New York. In 1999, Dr. Anain made local medical news once again by performing the first FDA-approved endoluminal aortic stent graft in Western New York for the treatment of an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
