Unite Here is one of the fastest growing, private sector, local unions in the United States. It was founded in 1995 by the merger of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) and the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU). Unite Here represents more than 700,000 active and retired members throughout North America. The union s members include immigrants and African-American, Latino and Asian-American workers. It represents workers in industrial laundries, hotels, restaurants, and the food service, airport, apparel and textile manufacturing industries. The union undertakes campaigns for Hilton Hotels Corporation, Cintas Corporation, and H&M.
