History
Alphabet City Music Workshops was originally created for singer-songwriters and lyricists with little or no music theory background. We want our students to feel confident when working with other musicians. The ability to communicate ideas via basic music notation as well as verbally is an attainable, time-saving and valuable skill. Plus, basic music theory knowledge can boost creativity and provide a new perspective on one's own work and the work of others.
Specialties
Our workshops are geared toward singers, songwriters, lyricists, beginners and anyone who wants a better understanding of basic music theory. We offer 5-week workshops, one-day intensive and private lessons, as well as online options. Class sizes are kept small so that students can freely ask questions and everyone participates. The material is presented in a fun, enthusiastic, clear and interesting way -- this is not a dull lecture! Free workbooks with original lessons and audio are included in the cost of registration. The instructor and founder, Tamara Hey, is a professional singer-songwriter, private guitar teacher with over 20 years of experience, and a graduate of Berklee College of Music and NYC's High School of Performing Arts.
