The Hat Factory Commercial Space
The Peekskill Hat Factory, established in 1871, has seen a few incarnations--from Catholic reform school to hat factory to commercial and art exhibition space. The factory was a major manufacturer of military hats during World War I, but poor working conditions that resulted in labor disputes caused the operation to relocate to Connecticut in 1923. The building fell into disrepair and sat unused for decades. Today, the building is owned by Garrison resident Ben Green and provides commercial space for businesses, light manufacturing and artist studios and galleries. It is also known for hosting art events and shows. The Hat Factory is located at 1000 North Division Street and currently provides commercial space for business, light manufacturing and artist studios. Since 1979, The Hat Factory has been home to various art exhibitions, such as the Peekskill Project, the Art Lot and For the Love of Art. The Hat Factory tenants are Jo-Ann Brody, Absolute Motion Video, Lisa Breznak, Somers & Associates, Inner Group, Hat Factory Furniture, Presentation Multi Media, Yamet Arts, Good For You Productions, S. M. Frank Co., Studio No.9, Excalibur Mineral, Page Integrity, and Ben Green's Peekskill Clay Studio.
