The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District maintains a range of open space, wildlife, farmlands and recreational facilities. It conveys water to and from more than 60,000 acres of croplands. The district operates the Geographic Information System (GIS) Department, which provides presentation products, performs spatial analysis and develops GIS applications. It utilizes geographic information systems technology that is used in the areas of policy development, decision-making support and operations. The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District also inspects water levels in Heron, El Vado, Abiquiu, Elephant Butte and Caballo reservoirs. It operates through assessment, biology, hydrology and purchasing departments. The district s project portfolio includes the Boys Pond, Signage and Ditches-with-Trails.
