Continental Divide Electric Cooperative is a nonprofit provider of power to more than 23,000 consumers throughout New Mexico. Founded in 1945, the cooperative owns over 3,900 miles of distribution lines. It also offers a layaway program that helps consumers invest in electric thermal storage heaters designed to cut heating costs. Continental Divide Electric Cooperative s Energy Library is a virtual encyclopedia that offers information on residential energy, lighting and geothermal heat pump systems, energy technologies, cooling system alternatives, and motors and drives. It also publishes a newsletter, The Current, that keeps cooperative members informed of issues that impact them. The cooperative provides budget billing payment plan, as well as power outage services. It is affiliated with the Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association and Touchstone Energy. Continental Divide Electric Cooperative maintains a presence in Grants, N.M.
