The first reverend of Freehold Baptist Church traveled by horseback to cover a territory including Middletown, Holmdel and upper Freehold, spending nights at parishioners' homes along the way. Now known as First Baptist Church, the current congregation is diverse and meets for American Baptist services in English and Spanish with contemporary and traditional hymns. The Gothic church was built in 1890 and hosts a women's ministry as well as a mid-week study and prayer for adults. There is also a Sunday school for children and teens.
