Formed in 1938 by the Summit Board of Recreation, the Summit Symphony was started to give local musicians a chance to read and perform orchestral music and to have orchestral concerts, free of charge, for residents of the greater Summit area. The symphony is still sponsored by the recreation department, now the Department of Community Programs, and has 65 active members, including high school students, that perform three concerts each season. Concerts are either held at Summit High School or Summit Middle School, as are rehearsals, which are every Wednesday at 7:30pm New musicians are always welcome to join.
