Chesapeake Utilities Corporation has a long and prosperous history. The Dover Gas Light Company, established in 1859, eventually became Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, even though the company was not officially incorporated in the state of Delaware until nearly 90 years later in 1947. The very next year, the company acquired two smaller gas companies, one in Seaford, Del., and the other in nearby Salisbury, Md.
