Shrewsbury's first aid squad is a private, volunteer-only organization funded in part by the borough and through a fund drive and donated gifts.
Located in a former metal shop on Haddon Avenue, the squad consists of two ambulances, which are used on an alternating basis. According to the squad, each ambulance is used to respond to approximately 300 calls each year. Not only does the squad respond to Shrewsbury calls, but as part of the 16th District and Monmouth County Mutual Aid Agreement, it is also often called on to assist nearby municipalities, too.
In the years since it was founded in 1964, a conference room and large two-bay garage have been added in separate projects.
