The Ridgewood Police Department, established in 1897, is a full-service, community-oriented law enforcement agency that employs a staff of more than 50 full- and part-time sworn and nonsworn officers, civilians and community volunteers. It undertakes various criminal cases and works with other state, local and federal agencies to ensure public safety. The police department is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Ridgewood Police Department handles issues related to drug abuse, animal control, fingerprinting, sexual offenses, shoplifting, identity theft, and traffic and parking law enforcement. Located in Ridgewood, N.J., it undertakes several car seat and vehicle inspections, as well as provides accident reports and sexual offender registries.
