The Division of Solid Waste and Recycling collects newspapers, corrugated cardboards, magazines, books, junk mails and other paper products for recycling. It also manages and recycles household hazardous wastes, electronic equipment, smoke detectors and tires and helps reduce costs for garbage disposal and environmental preservation. The division is a part of the Department of Public Works, which is governed by the City of Rahway in New Jersey. The department offers pavement and street maintenance, repair and sweeping and loose leaf collection services. It is also responsible for the removal of residential trash and wastes. The Department of Public Works additionally provides snow plowing services and opens streets for vehicles and safe traffic flow during snowstorms.
