The National Football League is an organization comprised of 32 professional teams. NFL teams are divided into two conferences: the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference. The professional team members are drafted or signed as a free agent, contracted and paid by owners of team. In 1965, NFL teams pledged not to sign college seniors until completion of their eligibility. NFL players are in partnership with the United Way campaign and other charitable organizations. The NFL was established in 1902, in Canton, Ohio, as The American Professional Football Association. In 1922, the name was changed to the National Football League. By 1941, its official NFL Record Manual was published. NFL Properties became the licensing arm of the NFL in 1963. In 1995, the NFL became the first major sports league to establish a Web site on the Internet. The NFL s paid attendance topped 16 million for the regular season and more than 65,000 per game in 2000.
