The Calhoun School
Founded in 1896, Calhoun School is a progressive, independent, college preparatory school, and is located in New York City. It is a coeducational institution serving more than 650 students in up to grade 12. Calhoun School has lower, middle and upper school divisions. Its academic programs include English, social studies, mathematics, languages, science, fine arts, and health and physical education. The school s physical department offers a wide variety of instructional, recreational, intramural and interscholastic programs. Its programs include soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, golf and tennis, project adventure, ballroom dancing, cardiovascular conditioning, self defense and martial arts, endurance training, weight training and Pilates. Calhoun School provides variety of extracurricular activities, including theater productions, and a wide variety of clubs, such as art, chess, classic film, comedy, dance, debate and garden clubs. The school has been recognized by the Department of Education and the National Council of Teachers in English.
