River Plaza Hose Company is Company 9 of Middletown's 11 volunteer fire companies. It was created in 1927, and was the ninth fire company incorporated. Middletown's fire department is one of the largest all-volunteer fire departments in the world. The fire station is located on Applegate Street between Carpenter and Foster Streets in the River Plaza section of Middletown. It serves the community within a several-mile radius of the station, including the neighborhoods near Navesink River and Swimming River. In addition to fighting fires in the local area, River Plaza Hose Company also educates the local community about fire safety and prevention.
