The Mount Laurel Police Department, established in 1938, is a law enforcement agency that protects residents lives and property, arrests violators of the law, and prevents and deters crime. Located in Mount Laurel, N.J., it handles issues related to drug abuse, animal control, fingerprinting, sexual offenses, shoplifting, identity theft, and traffic and parking. The Mount Laurel Police Department maintains the Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT), which undertakes various cases related to sexual offenses and domestic violence. The department has a team of community safety officers that provides training related to personal and community safety, gang awareness, alcohol and tobacco dangers and cyber safety. The Mount Laurel Police Department also supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, membership in gangs and violent behavior.
