The recycling division collects recyclables, educates residents about Fair Lawn's recycling program and enforces recycling regulations for items such as paper, clothing, electronics and construction materials. Hazardous materials are not accepted for recycling.
Businesses submit a business recycling registration form and report their annual recycling tonnage to the borough. For residents, curbside recycling is cancelled when there are weather-related emergencies or when Fair Lawn schools are closed.
As part of New Jersey's Clean Communities Program, Fair Lawn receives grant money from the state each year for litter prevention and education. The borough has a "Litter Marshal Program" with more than 100 volunteers.
