The Excelsior Fire Engine Company has been protecting Pearl River for nearly a century and currently includes more than 70 active volunteer firefighters. The company is half of the Pearl River Fire Department (Rockland County Department 12) along with Pearl River Hook and Ladder. The current structure was built in 1968 to take the place of the company's original building and includes the offices and meeting room for the Board of Fire Commissioners and the Pearl River Fire District Excelcior's vehicles include two pumpers, a heavy rescue truck, a small motor boat and a patrol/transport vehicle.
