The Lower Township Police Department, incorporated in 1955, is a full-service law enforcement agency that enforces ordinances, safeguards constitutional rights and preserves peace, order and safety. It maintains a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, which specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and barricaded gunman situations. The Lower Township Police Department also operates a communication center that responds to calls and provides services for police, fire and emergency medical services. The department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the use of illegal drugs, membership in gangs and violent behavior.
