AHC will be the best client and community focused treatment provider in the State of New Jersey. We strive for our clients to become free of licit and illicit substance abuse through Methadone/Suboxone treatment and substance abuse counseling. American Habitare & Counseling, Inc was founded in January 1998 in Newark, New Jersey. It took two and half years of relentless efforts by the owner of the program, Ms. Anita Khawaja to obtain a state license to operate an outpatient methadone maintenance and detoxification treatment facility. Since 1996, the desire to open an outpatient maintenance and detoxification center was made to serve the inner city population of Newark as documentation showed that the drug epidemic had reached the Newark area, as in other urban areas, and treatment services were desperately needed. American Habitare and Counseling, Inc ( AHC ) opened its doors on January 26, 1998 with a few clients and we recently celebrated our 10th year of operations. Within a few years, the census reached 350 clients. In 2005, American Habitare and Counseling, Inc received three year CARF accreditation after working very hard to meet the intent of the standard. The leadership at AmericanHabitare and Counseling bdieves that accreditation has improved service delivery and allowed us to become a better organization. Since receiving CARF accreditation, the census and personnel have expanded and we have increased our partnerships with various stakeholders. Currently, the census is 56. Until 2005, AHC was self-sufficient receiving zero funding from the state and federal government. However, in 2005, we entered into fee for service agreements with U.S. Probation Office and work first in NJ for those referred and in need of treatment. We continue to increase the number of fee for service agreements with various agencies to provide substance abuse services. In October 2006, American Habitare and Counseling, Inc started receiving referrals from New Jersey Access Initiative which is a voucher program that pays for substance abuse assessment and treatment for eligible clients. In December 2007, the organization became a Medicaid provider and is able to receive reimbursement for treatment services. American Habitare is committed to providing quality services and maintaining positive relationships with our stakeholders as evidenced by the increased number of fee for service contracts that we have solicited and secured. Currently, we are excited about the prospect of entering into a fee for service agreement with the Needle Exchange Treatment Initiative program and increase the number of persons served. We are also looking at other prospects to serve a larger population of clients who have co-occurring mental health disorders. We remain committed to the working relationship with all of our customers and will continue to pursue other agreements in order to continue to expand our services by providing quality services to residents of the community who are in need of treatment service. While these agreements will open up opportunities for us to receive additional financial support, we will continue to rely on fees incurred by our clients. Anita Khawaja serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of American Habitare and Counseling, Inc American Habitare and Counseling's primary mission is to improve the quality of care provided to substance abuse individuals by providing substance abuse treatment for opioid dependent individuals.
