The North Church of Portsmouth is at Market Square in historic downtown Portsmouth. The church itself is part of the history of Portsmouth. It was first built in 1712 and was rebuilt in 1837, making it one of the original structures in Portsmouth. There have been many famous historical Americans that have attended services there including, Gen. William Whipple, signer of the Declaration of Independence, John Langdon, signer of the U.S. Constitution, Daniel Webster, John Paul Jones, and President George Washington. It is in use today as a Congregational Church, and it has an auxiliary building on Spinney Road. The church still is in use and services are conducted at 10 a.m. Sundays.
