Stewart Conservation Camp
Stewart Conservation Camp (SCC) is a minimum custody facility located in Carson City, Nevada. Originally established in 1978 and later expanded in 1995, SCC houses inmates in five dormitory-style units and has a capacity of 360 individuals. The camp primarily employs inmates in various roles, including working for the Nevada Division of Forestry, participating in vocational training and educational programs, and providing support services for state agencies in Carson City. SCC also operates a commercial dairy, grows alfalfa, breeds and raises cattle, and runs the Wild Horse Training Program, where inmates train horses for adoption by the public. With a dedicated staff of 15 Nevada Department of Corrections members and 22 Nevada Division of Forestry personnel, SCC focuses on providing vocational training, educational opportunities, and treatment services to its inmates. In addition to preparing for the General Education Development (GED) test, inmates can participate in self-help and treatment programs conducted by medical and mental health staff. The camp's commitment to conservation and rehabilitation is evident through its partnership with Silver State Industries, which oversees the ranch operations and facilitates the Wild Horse Program in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Land Management.
