History
The Southern Nevada Writing Project has been working with Southern Nevada teachers and students since 1984 as part of a network of nearly 200 National Writing Project sites. In the last ten years, SNWP youth writing programs have impacted over 3,000 students and 200 teachers in the Las Vegas area. As a non-profit organization, we serve teachers of writing at all grade levels and in all subjects areas. The mission of the SNWP is to impact student learning by improving the teaching of writing, thereby promoting a vision that every person is an engaged and life-long learner.
Specialties
Each Summer, the Southern Nevada Writing Project conducts writing camps for students in grades 1-12. While our affiliation is with UNLV, not all camps are held on campus. Registration information and forms can be found on our website. Summer Youth Writing Camps are for students who love writing and are eager to try their hands at new types of writing. Students of all skill levels are invited to attend, but participants and parents should be aware that this is not an accelerated writing program, nor is it a remedial program. A passion or interest in writing is the main requirement! Our emphasis is on creating life-long writers who feel confident and comfortable with all the steps of the writing process. Instructors at the Summer Youth Writing Camp are Southern Nevada Writing Project Teacher Consultants who are selected because of their expertise and passion for teaching writing.
