Union Pacific Railroad Company is a subsidiary of Union Pacific Corporation and maintains the largest railroad in North America. Union Pacific Radio Company is the principal operating company of Union Pacific Corporation. It operates in the western two-thirds of the United States. The railroad serves 23 states, linking every major West Coast and Gulf Coast port and providing service to the east through its major gateways in Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, Tenn., and New Orleans. The railroad has one of the most diversified commodity mixes in the industry. UP is the nation's largest hauler of chemicals, much of which originates along the Gulf Coast near Houston. Union Pacific's largest customers are APL Limited, a steamship company that operates in the Pacific, General Motors and an assortment of chemical companies and utilities. James R. Young has been chief executive officer of Union Pacific for a year. He has been with the railroad and transportation company for over 28 years. Young attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Omaha, Neb.-based company posted more than $1 billion in revenue for 2005.
