Erdkamp Motors Timeline R.D. Erdkamp founded Erdkamp Motors in June of 1934. At that time he was granted brand franchises for Dodge and Plymouth vehicles. In 1946, R.D.'s three sons, Don, Robert and Leonard, also joined the business. That year the business moved to our current location on East Seneca Street. The series of buildings located on the north side of the 100 block of East Seneca Street were built by R.D. in the 1930s. Our shop facility was added to these buildings by R.D. and his sons when they moved the dealership to our current location. In 1960, Chrysler Corp decided their different franchises would have to be housed in separate locations. The decision was made to cancel our Plymouth franchise, and the business continued on as a Dodge dealership. By 1964, two of R.D.'s sons, Robert and Leonard, left the business to pursue other ventures. For the next three years the business was operated by R.D. and his son Don. In 1967 R.D.'s grandson, George, also joined the business. The three generations worked together until 1971 when R.D. passed away at the age of 83. From 1971 to 1982 Don and his son, George, operated the dealership. In 1982 Don retired and sold the dealership to George and his wife, Kathy. George and Kathy still own and operate the business to this day. George has been a part of the dealership for the last 42 years. During that time we added the Chrysler franchise in 1977, regained the Plymouth franchise in 1991 and took on the Jeep and Eagle franchises in 1992. All Eagle and Plymouth franchises were eventually phased out in 1998 and 2001 respectively, leaving us with our current new vehicle brands of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep. In early 2004 George and Kathy's son, Adam, moved to Exeter with his wife, Becky. He has been a part of the business since that time and is the fourth generation of his family to be involved with the dealership On September 9th, 2009 Ron Koch, sales manager for Chrysler LLC's Omaha and Kansas City areas, presented Erdkamp Motors with an award in recognition of our 75 years as a Chrysler LLC dealership.
