Blending the Spirit of Aloha with the Passion for SportWe strive to create a unique opportunity for collegiate sports teams to compete at the world class travel destination of Honolulu, Hawaii by providing all teams, fans, and families with an affordable convenient, and above all, unforgettable Hawaii experience. In 2002, Gene Steinmeyer and Marissa Maaske held the first event The Hoop N Surf Classic for five NCAA II women's basketball teams. Steinmeyer wanted an affordable event in our 50th state and Marissa, a physical therapist in Honolulu, provided the island contacts. Five teams played in that first basketball classic.Ten years have come and gone since that first event. The Hawai'i experience has expanded to most divisions of men's and women's basketball. Soccer found it's way into the schedule. I have spent those ten years as the head women's basketball coach at Northwest Missouri State. My duties was to answer coaches' questions as they considered entering the event. At the end of the 2010-2011 season, I retired after 33 years as a head coach. My new career is now running my new business, Malika Sport Tours, and managing every phase of the trip and event.Over 140 schools have competed in events hosted by Malika Sport Tours. Four women's teams used the Hoop N Surf Classic as a springboard to the national championship in their respective divisions the same year.
