Girls and Boys Town, the original Father Flanagan s Boys'Town, first opened its doors in 1917. Girls and Boys Town s mission has been to provide food, clothing, shelter, education, spiritual guidance and medical care to homeless, neglected and abused boys. The name was changed to Girls and Boys Town in 1979, and the same care has been extended to girls. The nonprofit, nonsectarian organization, cares for thousands of children and families each year with programs located at 19 sites in 14 states and the District of Columbia. The organization provides troubled children with a safe, caring, loving environment where they gain the confidence to get better and learn the skills to become productive citizens. All services are provided regardless of race, color, creed, gender, national origin, or inability to pay. The children come to Girls and Boys Town from every state in the union and several foreign countries. Girls and Boys Town's national headquarters and largest child-care facility are located at the historic Village of Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska.
