Montana Rail Link is a Federal Railroad Administration Class II regional railroad that operates more than 900 miles of track throughout Montana, Idaho and Washington. The company maintains a fleet in excess of 120 locomotives and 2,100 freight cars. Its railway connects with the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway at Laurel and Helena, Mont., and Spokane, Wash.; the Montana Western Railway at Garrison, Mont.; and the Union Pacific Railroad at Sandpoint, Idaho. Montana Rail Link s roundhouse facility in Livingston, Mont., offers inspections, maintenance and repairs. The company also has a variety of locomotives available for lease. It was established in 1883 as part of Northern Pacific s transcontinental railroad. Montana Rail Link is a privately held unit of the Washington Group of Companies.
