Founded in 1899, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is an organization that is comprised of military members who have served in combat in a foreign country. It is involved in the promotion of patriotism and performing community services. The organization maintains auxiliaries and includes more than 2 million members in over 8,000 posts throughout the world. It assists in the creation of funds for the Vietnam, Korean War, World War II and Women in Military Service memorials. The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States provides nearly $2 million in college scholarships to high school students. It also assists veterans in filing claims, as well as conducts health screening, eye examination and cholesterol checking services.
