Rebuilding Together St. Louis is a nonprofit organization that was created to bring volunteers and communities together to revitalize neighborhoods and rehabilitate the houses of low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly and the disabled.
Through generous corporate and private donations and a volunteer base of roughly 2,500, the organization rehabs and rebuilds about 200 homes per year.
Rebuilding Together St. Louis manages projects all year long, but most of its major rehabilitation projects happen in just three days, one each in April, August and October. On those days, all 2,500 volunteers are called to action and assigned to a specific home where they paint, spackle, hammer and wire until the house is safe and dry for the homeowner.
Volunteers come from all backgrounds and don't necessarily have to have construction experience. Anyone interested in donating or volunteering should sign up on the website.
Rebuilding Together St. Louis is an affiliate of a national volunteer organization.
