A board-certified cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Michael Nellestein provides expert venous disease management at Nellestein Vein Institute in Saint Joseph, Missouri, and the greater Northwest Missouri region. He runs a family-oriented practice where he and his talented staff are committed to caring for and educating each patient through a professional yet personable approach. Dr. Nellestein believes in being completely transparent with his patients in terms of treatment plans and insurance.Dr. Nellestein graduated from the University of Utah with an undergraduate degree in molecular biology and went on to receive a medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Nellestein completed his cardiothoracic surgery training from Saint Lukes Health System in Kansas City, Missouri. He has been living and practicing in Saint Joseph since 1998.Dr. Nellestein enjoyed a distinguished 25-year military career and is a retired Navy captain. He underwent airborne paratrooper and jungle warfare training with the 82nd Airborne Division. His military career included seven years overseas, nine years in Washington D.C., two years in Kansas City, and seven years in the reserves.For the past six years, Dr. Nellestein has focused his skills and passion for medicine on venous disease management. Before that, he worked at Heartland Regional Medical Center/Mosaic Life Care for sixteen years, where he held various positions, including the medical director of cardiothoracic surgery and medical director of vascular surgery. He started the Mosaic Vein Clinic in 2012.Dr. Nellestein and his wife of 35 years are proud parents to their two successful adult children; Emily and Andrew.
