Located in Jefferson City, Mo., the Clerk of the Supreme Court is responsible for a range of duties, including the supervision of the internal administrative function of the court, as well as the planning and administrative direction of the Missouri Judicial Conference. The Supreme Court of Missouri has been the state's highest court since 1820 and its role is to ensure a stable and predictable system of justice by serving as the final arbiter of disputes involving the state's constitution and laws. It hears and decides various controversial legal issues affecting the citizens, businesses, organizations and factions of government of Missouri. The court also handles cases related to the validity of a United States statute or treaty, a Missouri statute or constitutional provision, state's revenue laws and the Imposition of death penalty. The Supreme Court of Missouri also undertakes cases involving challenges to a statewide elected official's right to hold office.
