Mississippi Lime is a leading supplier of high calcium lime, limestone and other calcium-based chemicals of unsurpassed quality. Its facilities in Ste. Genevieve and Springfield, Mo. serve customers in the construction, steel, water treatment, chemical, food, pharmaceutical, paint and paper markets throughout the United States. The company has its origins as the Mississippi Sand Company, which was founded by Harry Mathews, Jr. in Alton, Ill. in 1907. By 1912, it grew into the aggregates and lime businesses in Alton. Looking to expand its lime base, the company purchased its first property in Ste. Genevieve County, Mo. in the 1920s, opening up a limestone quarry and building four vertical kilns. During the 1930s and 1940s, the Company began acquiring other operations. The next forty years saw continued expansion in capacity and products.
