History
My great uncle came to America in 1904, Benjamin Landesman. from Vienna. He was an artist for the St. Louis World's Fair. He bought his sister, Pauline, my grandmother with him along with his entire family. He begin Landesman Galleries in 1920 on Olive. Pauline Landesman married my grandfather Max Hirschfeld in 1905, he came to America in 1905 from Dresden Germany. He had four sons, my father, Richard, my uncles Julius Hirschfeld, Ben Hirschfeld and Harry Hirschfeld. I am a grand nephew as well of Al Hirschfeld of St. Louis and New York. Max began the Hirschfeld Antiques near by Landesman galleries in 1930 on Olive. This area became the famous Gaslight Square area in 1950 until its demise in 1969. My uncle operated Fine Arts Frame and my Uncle owned the Book Stall rare and fine books. until his untimely death in 1942 at the age of 33. We have an entire archive on Julius and his many accomplishments. He was a full time staff member of the famed Parke Bernet Galleries in New York.

We specialize in fine and rare books, works of art, paintings and sculpture, antiques of all types, manuscripts, graphics and maps, atlases, oriental carpets and objects of art. We have a warehouse at the Globe Democrat building in downtown St. Louis with an inventory at 50,000 books. at 710 North Tucker Blvd. St. Louis Mo 63101.
