Founded in 1979, Harvesters - The Community Food Network is a centralized food collection and distribution facility that provides food and household products to several agencies. It also offers nutrition education and hunger awareness programs. The network consists of more than 500 agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, homeless shelters and community kitchens. Located in Kansas City, Mo., the network develops partnerships with growers, processors, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and restaurants and encourages them to donate food items. It serves over 60,000 people every week and is supported by private corporations, religious organizations and federal grants. Harvesters - The Community Food Network is a member of America's Second Harvest.
