DAEOC Head Start, also known as Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation Head Start, is one of the largest rural Head Start programs in the United States. The program annually serves more than 1,300 children between the ages of 3 and 5. It serves children in Dunklin, New Madrid, Mississippi, Pemiscot, Scott and Stoddard counties in Missouri. In addition, DAEOC Head Start provides dental examination, lead screening and immunization services. The program includes educational, assessment and follow-up care services. It is administered by the Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation, which offers community development, housing assistance and health care services. The corporation maintains a location in Portageville, Mo.
