The Buchanan County Sheriff's Department, established in 1943, is a full-service law enforcement agency that provides services for the protection and security of the citizens and visitors of Buchanan County, Mo. It supports VINE, which is a program that informs and involves crime victims in important matters related to their cases. The department supports and conducts several youth events and neighborhood and vacation watch programs. The Buchanan County Sheriff's Department offers several support services, including gun registration, animal control, fingerprinting, and traffic and parking law enforcement. In addition, the department provides assistance with clearance letters, civil processes and accident reports. Located in St. Joseph, Mo., it also offers services for the issuing of bar cards, house checks, criminal and driver's history checks, and home and business security surveys.
