The Rankin County School District operates more than 25 schools and serves over 17,000 students. It offers various traditional and advanced-placement courses. The district also offers elective courses in art, business, technology, computer science, foreign language and music. Additionally, the district provides special education and related services to people with developmental disabilities. Located in Brandon, Miss., the district operates a parent center that encourages and supports social, physical, educational and emotional development of children. Its center organizes workshops on early childhood readiness, parenting skills, conflict resolution and computer skills. The district employs more than 40 certified school counselors. The Rankin County School District also offers various after-school activities that include arts and crafts projects, science experiments, games, book fairs and puppet shows.
