Located in Brandon, Miss., the 33,000-acre Ross Barnett Reservoir was created and constructed by the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District. The reservoir provides a water supply for the City of Jackson and to approximately 5,000 district leaseholders capable of meeting the projected growth demands of the city and surrounding areas. In addition, the district maintains the reservoir dam regularly and monitors water quality in cooperation with the Mississippi Department of Health and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. It provides recreational opportunities that include managing nearly 50 parks and recreational facilities for an estimated 2.5 million annual visitors. In conjunction with private and public sectors, the district has also developed five marinas, four baseball/soccer complexes, two golf courses and a water park. Residential communities are located on reservoir property, totaling 48 communities and more than 4,600 homes.
