Founded in 1969, Waite House provides human services and community-building activities. Its facilities include a kitchen, gymnasium, meeting space, food shelf and classrooms. The center offers Kids College, a reading and tutoring program that builds reading and comprehension skills in children in kindergarten through grade eight. Waite House also offers Jumpstart, which is a service-learning program designed to work with youths in grades seven and eight. It offers a variety of programs for youths in the arts, athletics, academics, technology and computers. The center s summer program includes weekly field trips and overnight camping opportunities. Waite House has employment counselors who work with youths between the ages of 14 and 21 on resume writing, filling out job applications, locating college scholarship opportunities, and enrolling in high schools and colleges. It is located in Minneapolis and is a part of Pillsbury United Communities.
