SMFCU opened in 1993 as a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative. South Metro provides high-quality, customer-friendly services to everyone who works or lives in Scott County, which is one of the state's fastest-growing counties. As a federally-insured credit union, South Metro returns income generated by loans and investments to the membership (once operating expenses and reserve requirements are satisfied), in the form of dividends and low-cost services. Deposits are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the U.S. government.
