History
The Shih family has been preparing fresh, flavorful Asian cuisine for over 60 years. And now, we've brought the taste of the Orient here to the Midwest! Grandpa Shih began his career at the age of 9 to help support the family. Later, his work ethic played an important part in his becoming a well-known chef in Szechwan (South China), training many apprentices who went on to become prominent chefs and cooking for Taiwan's president and other high-ranking political officials - an extremely high honor. His son, James Shih, apprenticed under him and, in turn, became the head chef in many restaurants in Taiwan. James took his skills to San Francisco's Chinatown where he became the head chef at a popular restaurant there. He realized the American Dream when, in 1980, he moved his family to Austin, Texas, and opened up his own restaurant. After many successful years as a restaurateur, Mr. Shih retired in 2004 and passed the family business down to his children. He now helps create a
