Founded in 1883, Minneapolis Parks & Recreation Board and is comprised of more than 165 park properties and 45 recreation centers throughout the city. The board is located in Minneapolis and serves the residents with recreational, environmental and other park programs and services for all ages. It provides a wide range of services, such as administrative, planning, development, environmental and recreational programs, maintenance operations, urban forest management and police protection for park visitors. The board encourages the community to be its partner by participating in various community-based programs, including volunteering to be a coach, planting a tree on Arbor Day, serving on park councils and working as a member of a park planning committee for developmental works. The recreation division of the Minneapolis Parks & Recreation is also responsible for various recreational programs that include cultural arts, environmental programs, and youth sports and adult athletic leagues.
