Established in 2003, Mill City Museum offers a variety of exhibits for visitors of all ages. It conducts storytelling programs for children and families. The museum provides group packages for scouts, day care facilities, preschools and youth organizations. It administers a range of educational programs for school students. Mill City Museum includes a baking laboratory that allows visitors to grind wheat, bake breads, package food and conduct experiments. The museum features paintings and clothing and household items, as well as historic films and photographs. It also includes a rooftop observation deck and a cafeteria. The museum maintains an online store that sells a variety of apparel, books, maps, posters, gift and jewelry items, and music and video records. It has been a recipient of the National Preservation Honor Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Mill City Museum is operated by the Minnesota Historical Society, which is a nonprofit, educational and cultural institution that manages several libraries and historic sites.
