Horace May Elementary, established in 1972, is located on more than 40-acres of forestland in Bemidji, Minn. The school has more than 400 students in grades kindergarten through fifth. It provides lessons in foreign languages, music, science, computers and physical education and also puts special emphasis on the development of reading, writing and mathematical skills. A wide range of activities are offered at Horace May, including beach day party, all-school dance, Bemidji lumberjacks bracelets bands, May in motion, girls softball, map testing, ballet and jazz dance basics and spring skiing. Horace May Elementary operates under the auspice of the Bemidji School District.
