The Blake School is the product of a small group of families who wanted to prepare their children for schools in the east. In the early 20th century, these families founded two schools in Minneapolis — Blake for boys and Northrop for girls. In 1958, the schools incorporated Highcroft co-educational elementary school in Wayzata. The three schools then merged to form The Blake School in 1974. Today, The Blake School combines an academically challenging curriculum with the expectation that students will participate in artistic and athletic activities as part of an integrated approach to learning. Students can study Mandarin Chinese, French, Japanese, Latin and Spanish. They can perform in plays and concerts, and they can participate in more than a dozen sports.
