Established in 1980, Alexandra House is a nonprofit, community-based organization that provides 24-hour emergency shelter, support and advocacy services for battered women and families. Located in Blaine, Minn., the organization is funded by the United Way and through various individual donations. It provides community education and training for professionals in the areas of law enforcement, health care and education. Alexandra House offers economic assistance, safety planning, medical, educational, legal and housing services. The organization provides support for issues related to child and sexual abuse and self-esteem. It supports various community programs that include a violence prevention program. In addition, Alexandra House offers several volunteer services, as well as organizes various events.
