The Office of Administrative Hearings, also known as OAH, provides skilled officers who conduct hearings of contested disputes and mediate settlements. Established in 1975, the office conducts hearings for state agencies, cities, counties, towns, school districts and other public entities through its administrative law judges. It provides a variety of license revocation and suspension hearings liquor, tobacco, taxi and food vendor licenses. The Office of Administrative Hearings also offers hearing in matters of municipal code violations, such as animal control problems, zoning disputes and special assessment appeals. It maintains the Administrative Law Division, which conducts contested cases and rulemaking proceedings, as well as provides information for agencies and cities. The office also operates the Workers' Compensation Division, which administers settlement conferences to informally resolve cases. The Office of Administrative Hearings maintains a location in Minneapolis.
